Parte-hartzaileak

The Hiri ekoizpenak symposium is an opportunity to consider and reflect on the construction of the public space from a perspective of gender and sustainability, from artistic practices and geopolitical analysis. These issues shall be analysed transversally on three scales: 1st week, transnational sphere (the models of Bilbao, Barcelona and Bogota) 2nd week, local sphere (the Euro Hiria as case study) and the 3rd week, the correlation between the different spheres (local, transnational and global).

Programme

1st workshop. 5th to 9th November
Tokilegu. Transforming spaces into places
Coordination: Hiria Kolektiboa
Guests: Pilar Vega, Itziar Vellido
The workshop will mainly be in Basque.

The workshop will focus on using a critical-creative analysis of the public space in order to consider how to influence-transform-improve the life of people. It will be considered from outside and within, constantly changing scale to understand that the place forms part of a network of places, of a diverse and complex territory. Urban planner, social activists, ecologists, sociologists, feminists, architects and artists will contribute to the process. Our goal is to create a team to put forward a proposal to manage interventions in the public space, in our meeting places.

2nd workshop. 12nd to 16th November
Adrift. Travelling observatory
Coordination: Jaime Iregui
Guests:Carlos Niño, Ramón Parramón, Iñaki Uriarte
The workshop will mainly be in Spanish.

The workshop considers the different themes that emerge from the relationship between artistic practices and the public space. Special emphasis is placed on the interdisciplinary nature of these relations -as is the case with the Situationists- where artistic proposals imply a direct link with other disciplines such as architecture, urban planning, literature, philosophy, anthropology and sociology. It will therefore consider artistic practice as a vehicle of knowledge and observation which, based on a critical and questioning look at the context, puts forward proposals that transform our way to perceive and inhabit the public space.

3rd workshop. 19th to 23rd November
Towards an Affirmative Critique of Architecture
Coordination: 16beavergroup
The workshop will mainly be in English.

What is the relation between architecture/planning and our contemporary ecological/political crises? This workshop begins with the thesis that planning and architecture are not benign practices. On the contrary, they remain a central node of struggle today for those who are struggling to improve our contemporary political and ecological circumstances. We would like to look at a set of examples in which apparently benign architectural and planning practices underwrite various forms of dispossession, exploitation and oppression. Following from these examples, we would look at (hopefully travel to) and discuss some cases within the Basque and Spanish context which we may also learn from. At the conclusion of these discussions/conversations and analysis, we would like to make an attempt toward an affirmative critique of architecture: to formulate together a set of terms or conventions to which we could imagine architects or planners agreeing to, before taking on any prospective projects.
