Digitalisation and editing using the AVID system

This year, the courses are going to be held in the mornings over five days, leaving the afternoons free to experiment with what has been learnt.

PROGRAMME

Avid courses
Various Introduction to AVID system micro-workshops will be held, when the emphasis will be on solving the specific problems that may be resolved in optimum conditions by means of ensuring the maximum performance of the AVID system. The different projects that are considered in each workshop will be solved by means of brainstorming, with the help of the AVID technician. Each group will thus deal with different technical issues while solving the specific problem of each project.

Beginners
16-20 April and 21-25 May

This course must be completed in order to be able to use the editing room.
Content:
•Basic aspects of each of the Avid systems.
•Basic theoretical concepts regarding digital video.
•Distinguishing between the various kinds of current video formats.
•Non-linear video editing and postproduction techniques.
•Treatment and use of audio in audiovisual montage.
•Dexterity and skill in handling Avid.
Price: 30€

Advanced
11-15 June and 3-7 September

Special emphasis will be placed this year on the advanced courses. Workshops will be held aimed at people who have completed the introductory course or need to learn more about the AVID system.

•Getting to know the ways an Avid system works.
•Starting multi-layer editing in Avid.
•Working with audio the titler and graphic material.
•Avid AVX and effects.
•Ways of bringing out material: DVD Web…

From analogue to digital/ From recording to DVD
12-16 November

This workshop will show how to create a DVD using any video or graphic format. From non linear editing, in this case AVID, starting from any format, such as: VHS, HI8, Betacam, Umatic, DV, DVCAM, DVCPRO… as the process to obtain the necessary file to then record the DVD using an authoring program.

Editing in Avid Xpress Pro and Avid Media Composer
10-14 December

This course is an introduction to the concepts of non linear editing and includes all the basic concepts of Avid Media Composer and Avid Xpress Pro for Windows and Macintosh. The sessions are divided between personal demonstrations and practical aspects, with time allocated for practical sessions with guided material. The students will use Avid Media Composer to digitalise, organise the material, edit using synchro, trim sequences, edit audio, create titles and discover the different ways to release the material: tapes, CDs, DVDs,…

AVID AND MULTIMEDIA ROOM

The equipment in the Avid and multimedia room are available for the Arteleku users and they have all the resources for projects using the Avid Media Composer system with Betacam and DVCAM, Avid Xpress Pro with Mojo DVCAM, which can be used to digitalise and convert information into any analogical or digital format, from a VHS to a DVD. The multimedia room has PC and MAC computers with access to Internet, connected to a scanner and network printer and fitted with various graphic design programs.
APPLICATION FORM

You will have to be currently working on a creative project that requires handling a audio and video editing system in order to be accepted for these workshops You will also have to attach the project to the registration form.

Gabriel Corbella Eguiluz. Visual and Sound Engineer. At Arteleku he has been the head of the multimedia workshops since 2000 and the audio-visual programming engineer since 2004. In 2002 he qualified as an ACSR (Avid Certified Representative Support) in Pinewood (London) and as an ACI (Avid Certified Instruction). He gives courses in Avid at various centres (University of the Basque Country, Avid, San Antonio de los Baños Film and Television School -Cuba-) and broadcasters.
