“Travesías” – Daniel Canogar

To mark the Spanish presidency of the European Union, Daniel Canogar (Madrid, 1964) has created a video installation in the atrium of the Justus Lipsius building in Brussels, projected by means of an LED screen hanging from the ceiling.

Breaking with the 'traditional' flat model of projection, the 33 metre-long LED screen takes the form of a gracefully sinuous 4-metre high loop.

On this surface, Canogar projects images of a crowd in movement: walking, running, packing together, falling, tripping... a metaphor of transit, of the economic and social journey taken by European society in recent years: a journey in which great progress has been made, but one which has not been free from danger, blunders and risk.

The work will remain on exhibition in Brussels for the six months of the Spanish EU presidency.
