Animac 2006

Parte-hartzaileak

From March 7th to 9th

Coordination: Isabel Herguera
Production: Arteleku – Gipuzkoa Provincial Council
With the collaboration of: Animac, Lleida City Council, Autonomous Government of Catalonia, Decapacap, Kutxa

Transgressing and questioning the limits of the traditional narrative, it seeks visionaries who make independent and daring work that strengthens and enriches the expressive capacities of animated films.

On March 7th, 8th and 9th, a selection of the festival’s most important films and activities will be shown, as part of the Animac-Arteleku partnership programme that started four years ago.
In line with the independent nature of Animac and Arteleku’s interdisciplinary philosophy, the selection of works will show how animation is a discipline that participates in the creative process in many different ways and forms.

Modulações sonoro visuais/ Modulaciones sonoro visuales
Modulações is an audio-visual project by the sound artist, Xabier Erkizia, together with the video-artist, Raimo Benedetti. This project aims to recover “the sound of images and the visuality of sound” in a unique and indivisible model. Using a sound track that recovers the basic elements of music, such as its texture and its abstraction potential, Erkizia’s work invites us to listen to a sound universe full of details and dynamics. With an intimate tonality, Benedetii uses the abstraction capacity of the video images produced and handled live during the presentations. It is up to the audience to decided if it is a concert with simultaneous projections or a visual performance with live music of a variety of durations

Biographies

Raimo Benedetti. Video-artist. He is looking for a new formula of artistic practice that he applies in study groups that he calls Experimental Video Groups. With a highly visually dense videographic language, he subverts the usual use of technology, something that he has pushed to develop his own low tech filming and editing system that he calls "trakitana". He is considered to be one of Brazil’s Vjing pioneers, thanks to the innumerable pieces of video-scenery handled and screened live.

Xabier Erkizia. Musician, producer and columnist, he coordinates the Arteleku Audiolab sound laboratory. Such varied styles as electronics, rock, folk, contemporary composition or improvising come together in his projects or partnerships, always seen from the prism of experimentation. His solo work is along far more reflective lines and is noted for being more introspective and minimalist. He belongs to the Ertz association.

Isabel Herguera. Animator. She graduated in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country and from the Kustakedemie in Dusseldorf (Germany). In 1994, she was awarded at Master’s of Fine Arts from the California Arts Institute. Since March 2002, she has run Animac – International Animated Film Festival of Catalonia – in Lleida. She was nominated for the Goya for the Best Animated Short Film in 2006 for La gallina ciega.

Brett Ingram. Director, film maker, co-producer and editor. His animated films and documentaries have won numerous awards and have been screened at various international festivals and museums. He currently lectures in film and video production at the University of North Carolina. Monster Road is his first feature length movie.

Lourdes Villagómez. Animator. She has worked on independent and commercial animation projects in Mexico and Los Angeles. She coordinates the animation studies at the Department of Visual Arts at Morelos State Autonoma University (Mexico). In 1995, she was part of the international programme at New York’s Museum of Modern Act and was awarded the Fulbright-Garcia Robles Grant for her academic work. She studied communications at the Metropolitana-Xochimilco Autonoma University and holds a Master's of Fine Arts in experimental animation from the California Arts Institute.
