SOUND IMPROVISATION: Strategies for the here an now

It was from the prepared piano works of American composer John Cage, composed in the 30's, that musical instruments began to acquire a new status within the musical vanguard. Having regard to the possibilities offered by these new approaches to the instruments, the musical focus away from the parameters of contemporary classical composition, he went slowly into new areas where the sound could be expressed more freely, blurring new situations, new practices and ways of understanding music. Thus was born in the 60's, free improvisation, in some ways the heir of free-jazz and contemporary music. The instruments are prepared, stretched and widened to evacuate their own traditions and find new horizons sound. And since the instruments were no longer what they seemed, was also given the opportunity to make music with objects.
